What is your definition of success?

What is your definition of success? For me, tonight was pretty successful.

For those of you that don’t know, I am a part time Youth Specialist. “Specialist” is a cool name for an un-ordained youth pastor. Every Wednesday I have the privilege and honor to spend the day at our church planning, preparing, and praying for our youth group that evening. Usually we have between 40-50 teens each Wednesday night and they are all like family to me. Most of these teens come from unchurched homes.
In some cases their parents discourage them from coming. I really feel like I’d be willing to die for most of them. I pour my heart into their lives and I love every second of it.

Teens today have it so hard. As a 30 yr old, I wasn’t exposed to the things they are exposed to and I lived a far-from sheltered teenage life.

We have teens in our youth group who struggle with homosexual thoughts, athiesm, drug use, alcohol use, anger, cutting, and suicide. On the outside, the impression is they are happy and everything is ok, but at the core of their hearts, these struggles are alive and in some cases growing deeper. It breaks my heart to hear some of their stories.

Tonight was an awesome night. We had over 40 teens in attendance and there was a real good spirit among the group. We had at least 1 visitor plus 3 or 4 teens return that I hadn’t seen in a while. After dinner (pizza and subs!!) we sang some worship songs and I spoke on how to deal with emptiness in our lives. I will post notes from this lesson tomorrow. At the end of the lesson, I asked all the teens who were willing to give their best to God to stand up. I’m not sure what their best is, but if they’re willing to give it, then I’m willing to push them. About 25 teens stood up! Success! Praise God!

Please pray for our youth ministry. We need it if we are going to continue to be successful.
